Today was the same as yesterday as we got going…up late, breakfast before 10am, then out of the hotel by 11am. We purchased trolley tickets at the front desk and then you can use them for 30 minutes once you validate them on the first trolley. We rode straight up the 22 from near our hotel to the top of the hill near the Castle. Figuring out the transportation system took a couple of maps, but we did fine.
When we arrived at the Castle, there was a changing of the guard and other formal processions taking place.
The highlight of the tours around the castle were the Cathedral and the dungeon where they kept prisoners back in the 17th century. Since we are not students of Czech history, and most of the stops did not have any English explanations, we did not linger long. Jack liked the knight stuff and there was plenty of it.
Dungeon and medieval torture devices.
Another picture of a “Water Closet” as we left the Castle.
After the Castle, we had lunch back down in Lesser town at a place called the “Cafeteria.” It was good and we got a chance to “rest our barkin’ dogs.”
We had to go to the exchange place to exchange all the money I accidentally got yesterday. So, we hiked back across the Charles bridge and back to Old Town. While we were there, we visited a couple more stores and got Jessica a cool sweatshirt. We also stopped by the Hard Rock Café for a photo:
Then, we were off to the Petrin Hill via the Funicular. On the way we got a little lost, but happened across the US embassy in Prague. They were closed until the 9th of July –go figure!
On the way up:
While we were on top of the hill, we climbed to the top of the tower…
and went through a “Hall of MIrrors"”:
Jack invented Tourist Man as a super hero. He is not fully dressed in his outfit, but he has a backpack, hiked up shorts, tube socks & sandals, film camera, and is always carrying a map. We all fit this description from time to time.
Jack’s hat matched Kim’s shirt.
On the way back down the hill, we figured out some cool settings on the camera and got this shot.
Then, we hitched back on the tram and went to a “pick-em-up” store for dinner. Yogurt, bananas, water, Pringles, and snacks left from traveling.
Tomorrow we head to Munich by way of Dachau Concentration Camp.
Good night everyone!
