Day 22–Arc de Triomphe, Segway tour, Shopping on Champs Elysees

Today we slept in a little since we got in bed so late last night.  We left the apartment around 10:45 and got breakfast on the run at the local bakery literally around the corner from our location.

We jumped on the subway and went to the Arc de Triomphe to see it and take some pictures.  It was erected in the early 1800’s and is a tribute to all the French soldiers that have fought and died.

After the Arch, we wandered down the Champs Elysees as it is a famous street here in Paris with many shops and LOTS of people.  There were car dealer showcases along the way – Mercedes, Renault, etc.  Many department stores, jewelry, fashion stores, etc.  We were tempted to get Jack a new pair of shoes, but the prices at the Nike store were outrageous.  You almost couldn’t buy a pair of any type of sneaker for under $100.

At about 1pm, we split up – the first time we have done that since Romania and driving on the farm.  The girls stayed on the main drag and shopped, while the boys went to do a Segway tour.  There aren't any pictures of the shopping, but Jack and I had a lot of fun on the Segways.

At first, they make you a little nervous, but within 10 minutes, everyone was very good at them and we went for 2 hours around the sites.  Our tour guide was the owner of the company and we found him on day 1 right near the Eiffel tower and grabbed a card.  Since this was a small operation, he was the owner and the tour guide.  I would say it was much more of a Segway ride than an informational tour.  While there were some facts and interesting tidbits, we really went for the opportunity to ride one of these machines.  It cost less than the other tours too.

We finished the day by finding each other back on Champs Elysees, a quick stop in the Disney Store, and then back to the Apartment.  We rested for a few minutes and then walked to a pizza place for dinner and then a quick hit of the grocery for more breakfast items.

Tomorrow we tour more stops in Paris and hopefully hit the Hard Rock Café for dinner and then see the Eiffel tower and night.  Friday we are going to Versailles and quitting early so we can pack and be ready to head out on Saturday morning.

Hopefully to bed earlier tonight…it is now 9:30pm.

Good night,

The Whitlocks
