This one will be short as it is 11:30pm here, only 4:30pm at home, but we have been up for a long time.
Finished out the flight to Budapest and Alin, Teo’s friend picked us up.
One funny note while we were on the plane…
The attendants called for a translator in a weird way - “can we please have anyone that knows how to speak Romanian and English come to the counter?” Jessica said, “why do they want us at the counter?” I said, “they don’t want us.” She said, “they want anyone who speaks English…” It was late, but it was funny.
Alin, our driver, and Teo’s good friend. Teo came home in Sept. 2008 to be in Alin’s wedding. He is 24 and his wife works here in Oradea. Alin is looking for a job.
We arrived at the “hotel” where we are staying, on the property of Caminul Felix 2. Teo and Tunde met us here along with Cristi (from the choir trip in 2004). It was a brief reunion and then we got to take showers.
It has been a bad 24 hours for breaking stuff. laptop, window at home, broke my headphones on the plane…then when we got here, the shower overflowed on Jessica, all over the floor, and I broke a water glass in our room :-|.
Finally, we were clean and feeling better. Teo and Tunde treated us to a nice dinner at the Capatolium. Very good food. Jack did not like the mineral water….
One of the funniest things of the day was one of the menu items. Teo got us an English menu and this was on the Fish page….
The Fried Crap actually caught my eye first, and then after I was done laughing at that, I actually realized you could get Boiled Crap. And at the bottom, if you don’t like your Crap boiled or fried, you can have a couple doses of lemon on it….
Actually, they meant to say Croppy…. (sp?)
Had a nice reunion here at Noble House (our hotel)tonight with lots of old friends. Mircea and Lydia from House 5, Cristi, Andy Baker and Rob Muncy, Teo and Tunde, Tunde’s sister, and Tunde’s mom and dad. And, staying here at Noble house is a group of 27 from the Purdue Ag program. I stood up on a chair in the middle of their evening debrief (they did not know who I was) and led them in the Purdue Fight Song. Boiler UP!
over and out…almost midnight and the other 3 Euro-Rookies are in bed. -scott
