Today we saw a few too many men with speedo’s and bellies hanging over them…there is just something wrong with this, but with my long swim trunks, I was in the minority. In fact, Kim nailed it today when she said, “It is like swim suits are an inconvenience here. It appears they would all rather just make it easy and be naked.”
Just be glad you don’t have the side profile view!
Today, we just hung around the campground here, which is WAY more than a campground, it is almost like Disney World. They have restaurants, mini-golf, water park, the beach on the Adriatic Sea, Supermarket, fresh fruit, fresh fish, and live entertainment at night.
Behind Jack and I is the Aquamarina water park. It was a blast.
Almost every women had a bikini, even the oldest women. We did not see any topless women accept for young girls (this was an answer to prayer).
The funniest scene today was the 5 year old boy that pulled down his pants and walked over to the drain of the shower inside the pool are and peed in the drain. His dad even turned on the water for him and sanctioned the event. This all happened within 6 feet of Kim as she was sitting with our stuff. There was an 8-year old brother that must have seen Kim’s surprised reaction, because he came over and tried to offer some privacy to the little boy by stepping in-between Kim and him.
Jessica got in a 400m swim in the pool behind her at the water park.
They had a great wave pool that the kids wanted to be in every time it ran.
Kim wanted to show off how clean the bathrooms are.
We spent time on the beach, time at the pool and had breakfast and dinner from food at the supermarket. We had lunch at one of the restaurants here on the grounds – very good food. Kim had a pizza, Jessica Lasagna, Jack hot-dog, and I had grilled chicken and veggies.
Tonight we had PB&J with great fresh fruit, yogurt, and chips.
We had to buy chairs and some bamboo beach mats to have at our campsite. We are still trying to figure out how we are going to get all of this to our rental car on Monday. It was tough enough with the gear we had, now we have to add 2 mats, and 4 chairs. Yee ha.
We are probably going to go see “Chicago” tonight at the live entertainment area.
A few interesting notes and differences from home:
- You have to rent/pay for most things (like grocery bags, shopping carts, umbrellas, bathrooms)
- Everything (even here in the campground) closes from 1-3pm
- Everyone wears skimpy suits regardless of age, weight, figure, or anything…
- It seems getting a sunburn here is normal or expected. Lots of red people.
- Vendors on the beach were selling towels, sunglasses, hats, croc imitations, bracelets, necklaces, etc.
- not one Class A motor home anywhere….the largest are Class C (the ones with the van front end)
- people are leaving the shower houses in robes…only (we assume)
- from 1-3pm, the place was completely deserted…we don’t know where they all went…probably taking a nap
There is only pay Internet here, and we have to walk to it, so I will try to update every night, but not sure. Tomorrow is the glass-blowing island and back here, and then Sunday we are going to go tour the island of Venice. Monday we get a rental car and head to Florence.
Ciao from Marina di Venenzia!
